Main Purpose of Role:
The Commercial Property Solicitor is responsible for managing a caseload of client matters, including but not limited to commercial property, finance, and securitisation work. The role involves working collaboratively with colleagues within the department to handle complex property and mortgage matters, as well as contributing to business development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct matters on behalf of clients, with a focus on commercial property transactions, including matters involving the taking up of security.
- Provide assistance to colleagues with fee-earning work as required, for example, during periods of high workload or staff absence.
- Manage and supervise support services for which the Solicitor is responsible.
- Participate actively in business development activities at firmwide, departmental, or office levels.
- Exercise sound financial control, including effective cashflow management through the collection of monies on account and prompt billing.
- Carry out fee-earning work accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with the firm’s quality and risk management procedures (Lexcel).
- Attend departmental meetings and contribute positively to discussions and follow-up actions.
- Generate new business from existing and prospective clients and referrers.
- Maintain and develop a professional network of contacts and referrers to promote the firm both professionally and personally.
- Maintain IT proficiency appropriate to modern legal practice.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years’ PQE with current experience in commercial property work.
- Highly motivated, with strong integrity, energy, and the ability to problem-solve and prioritise effectively.
- A proven team player who works well under supervision and responds positively to constructive feedback.
- Demonstrates a commitment to quality in all aspects of work, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Capable of handling complex matters with strong research and drafting skills—for example, identifying assumptions made by buyers or in valuation reports that are not supported by legal title investigations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Commercially aware, with a sound understanding of company and commercial work, and empathetic to the needs of business clients.
- Fully proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, with experience using computerised case management systems.
- Demonstrated success in winning new business through referrals and business development activities.
- Willingness to engage with colleagues and clients outside of normal business hours when required.
