Legal Southwest

Legal Southwest currently have an in-house role for a Paralegal/Wayleaves Supervisor to join our client who is based in Exeter. The key focus of this role is to act as a single point of contact for obtaining land owner consents, Wayleaves and easements for the installation of new fibre broadband networks in the South West, and assisting with management of business legal issues, including contract development and review, and liaising with solicitors as required.

Key duties and responsibilities will include

  • Providing advice and assistance with legal matters concerning the business, including managing the process of contract review and development with solicitors when appropriate
  • Helping in negotiations to secure access arrangements from landowners and occupiers for installation of fibre network
  • Acquiring all Wayleave Agreements and Deeds of Easement as required
  • Consulting with relevant statutory bodies and obtain all environmental assents and consents
  • Submitting, as required, applications to the Local Planning Authority for exemptions and required licences
  • Liaising with all non-statutory consultants
  • Providing full Wayleaves support for the feasibility and selection of new routes
  • Estimating the compensation required by landowner’s occupiers for any losses or damage caused and negotiating settlement
  • Resolving disputes over Wayleave rights
  • Assisting in developing the Wayleave business through establishing good client relationships and actively seeking new opportunities with existing clients
  • Any other duties that might reasonably be required of you

Relevant Experience

  • give keen attention to details, thorough and accurate
  • work in a fast-paced environment and operate in an agile, dynamic and flexible workspace

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Relevant Paralegal experience
  • Previous experience of negotiating with land owners and occupiers to secure access arrangements
  • Qualified to RICS or similar Standard, or working towards such qualification
  • A law degree and/ or other relevant legal training
  • A full driving licence will be required
