Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a NQ Solicitor or qualified Legal Executive with defendant EL/PL and experience of court document preparation to join a highly regarded national law firm within their Exeter office.  This full time and permanent role offers a competitive salary and benefits package and opportunity for progression within a pleasant and supportive working environment.  


Joining the firm’s Technical Claims and Social Care Team who are tasked with providing a variety of high quality legal services on complex matters to the firm’s technical claims clients including academies and higher education providers, local authorities, private care providers and commercial clients and insurers, you will be dealing with your own caseload of fast track claims, small claims and low value multi track claims and will also be afforded the opportunity to assist Senior Solicitors with their cases. 

Responsibilities will also include preparation of court documents (allocation questionnaires, Defence, papers for assessment of costs, disclosure), taking witness statements and preparing correspondence, assessing liability and quantum issues and advising insurance clients, dealing with queries, court attendance on small claims hearings, trials and interlocutory applications, preparing trial bundles and support at court hearings and working with the team to achieve both your own and the team’s yearly target hours and fees.


A team player who is able to quickly build excellent working relationships with both colleagues and members of the wider firm, you will be client focussed with a genuine desire to both maintain and strengthen existing relationships and to help to build new.  You will also be flexible and professional with good communication skills.


Highly organised and able to be self-managing whilst working on your own initiative, you will have good IT skills (Microsoft Office and experience of using a case management system desirable) and the willingness and enthusiasm to learn and grow within this friendly and supportive team.
